Strategically located at the gateway to Homebush Bay on the Parramatta River, the Wentworth Point Precinct was one of the first post industrial sites to be developed under the NSW Government’s UAP programme. CONTEXT collaborated with CM+ to prepare a rezoning plan for the site, followed by landscape concept plans for the extensive waterside public domain.
The mixed use residential development incorporates a waterfront promenade extending from the Millennium Parklands to the head of Homebush Bay, a village centre, a 2.5 hectare peninsula point park, and a network of local parks and streetscapes
Environmentally sustainable initiatives include the conservation of the existing salt marsh at the point, use of bio-retention swales and wetlands to collect and polish surface run off, regeneration of mangroves and the capping of the site as a precaution against former industrial uses.
The Point Park incorporates a playground, riverfront walks, BBQ and seating facilities, wetlands and saltmarshes, and is co-located with the playing field of the adjacent primary school to amplify the open space and recreation experience. CONTEXT is currently involved in the tender documentation for the Headland Park.
