CONTEXT was commissioned by the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) to prepare a masterplan report for Wattamolla in the Royal National Park, a popular destination during peak holiday seasons. Key issues that were addressed in the masterplan were related to the capacity of Wattamolla’s environment, infrastructure and parking.
CONTEXT worked in conjunction with traffic and tourism consultants to determine an appropriate visitor capacity for the site and introduced a range of landscape solutions to cater for that capacity, including new amenities buildings and upgraded parkland facilities.
As part of the process, the project group involved key stakeholders in project meetings and presentations to gather input and recommendations for the proposed developments.
These included strategic pruning of vegetation to improve views, re-positioning the car park to free up open space near the waterfall for picnicking and a new raised walkway and lookout to replace the negative visual impact caused by the existing waterfall fence.
