Goat Island Masterplan
Location Goat Island, Sydney Harbour
Client NSW Department of Environment & Conservation
Project Duration 2005-2006
CONTEXT in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary team developed a landscape and a heritage conservation plan for the National Parks and Wildlife Service. This involved the review of existing conditions such as the buildings, landscape and future uses.
The plans addressed issues of conservation, restoration and enhancement of the Goat Island’s natural landscape within its Harbour Island setting; the cultural landscape of this unique island; provide a well-managed, favoured destination in Sydney’s “working harbour”, balancing its income generating dock facilities with sympathetic and creative uses of the landscape involving passive recreation, interpretation and education.
The vision sees Goat Island to become an active place; a revitalised ‘harbour playground’ in Sydney Harbour; a place where Sydneysiders, local and international tourists come to relax, learn about the past, savour the present and experience one of the world’s most beautiful harbours.
